CCA Junior Coaching Program
At the CCA Figure Skating Club, we believe that growing as a skater goes hand-in-hand with growing as a leader. Our Junior Coaching Program provides an opportunity for our advanced skaters to step into leadership roles, give back to our community, mentor our youngest skaters, and build invaluable life skills like communication, patience, and responsibility.
We offer a highly supportive, rewarding environment where you can transition from being a student to a passionate role model on the ice.
Program Pathways & Levels
To ensure our skaters are fully supported and our junior staff can grow confidently, all participants begin their leadership journey at the Trainee level. This mandatory starting point allows everyone to learn our club's unique philosophy, master group management, and build confidence before taking on independent responsibilities.
1. Junior Coach Trainee (The Starting Point)
-
Who it’s for: All incoming junior coaches, as well as returning coaches who are continuing to build their skills and accumulate their required hands-on training hours.
-
The Role: Working side-by-side with Lead junior coaches and our main coaching staff to learn the ropes. Trainees focus on learning how to manage groups, demonstrate elements safely, and keep our youngest skaters engaged and smiling while under direct supervision.
2. Junior Coach Lead (Advanced Placement)
-
Who it’s for: Experienced junior coaches who have successfully completed their mandatory training hours as a Trainee, demonstrated exceptional leadership, and have been cleared by our main coaching staff to advance.
-
The Role: Ready to independently lead a group or station under the general supervision of our main professional staff. Leads act as primary peer role models, directing group exercises and managing designated skating stations on their own.
What We Look For
-
A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a love for working with children.
-
Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of team spirit.
-
A commitment to upholding the CCA philosophy of safe, supportive, and non-competitive recreation.
Important Information
-
Junior Coach Placements: Each skating session is capped at 4 Leads and up to 4 Trainees. Please note that placements are limited based on overall club registration needs and coach availability. To accommodate as many interested coaches as possible, we may offer partial-hour roles.
-
Flexible Scheduling: Junior coaches can choose which day works best for their personal schedule (Tuesdays or Thursdays) directly on the application form.
-
Season Commitment: We ask all junior coaches to initially commit to a half-season (October to December). Coaching needs and placements are re-evaluated in January, providing an opportunity to adjust schedules, accommodate changing school commitments, or make updates for the winter term.
-
Mandatory Training Session: All successful applicants, both new and returning, are required to attend our season-launch training session annually (2026 training is scheduled for October 1, 2026).
-
Path to Promotion: Trainees must accumulate a minimum of 15 hands-on training hours before being considered for advancement to a Lead role.
